Theo tông báo công bố ngày 11/1 của Chủ tịch công ty giải trí ABC Entertainment – ông Craig Erwich – nêu rõ lễ trao giải thưởng điện ảnh thường niên danh giá này sẽ quay lại hình thức tổ chức có người dẫn chương trình lần đầu tiên kể từ năm 2018. Bên cạnh đó, sự kiện này cũng sẽ trở lại với điểm tổ chức truyền thống là Nhà hát Dolby.
Tuy không chính thức công bố về danh tính người dẫn chương trình Oscar 2022, nhưng ông Craig Erwich đã làm giới truyền thông vô cùng tò mò khi ông đùa rằng: “Người đó có thể là tôi”. Trong khi đó, nhiều người hâm mộ điện ảnh lại gợi ý nên để tài tử người Anh Tom Holland làm người dẫn chương trình sau thành công vang dội của bộ phim “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, mà anh đóng vai chính.
Những người dẫn chương trình đình đám trước đây của các lễ trao giải Oscar là người dẫn chương trình trò chuyện đêm khuya Jimmy Kimmel, cùng hai diễn viên hài Chris Rock và Ellen DeGeneres.
